Salida Sanitary District |
6200 Pirrone Road | The Rapid Infiltration Basins |
---|
|
Treated wastewater disposal occurs at the rapid infiltration basins. Once wastewater has completed the treatment process the effluent pumps discharge it to the rapid infiltration basins. Water in the basin percolates to the shallow groundwater aquifer. The District's Waste Discharge Permit requires groundwater monitoring wells placed around the treatment plant be sampled regularly to demostrate wastewater discharges are not affecting the quality of the groundwater in the shallow aquifer. |

The infiltration basins are designed to allow drainage within 24 hours. The basins are kept free of weeds to prevent mosquitos or other pests from breeding. The Mosquito Abatement District regularly inspects the ponds to make sure they are mosquito free. |
